Quick Facts
What is Sermorelin?
Sermorelin is a truncated analog of natural growth hormone releasing hormone, containing amino acids 1-29 of the 44-amino acid native GHRH. This segment contains all the amino acids necessary for biological activity. Historically, it was FDA-approved for diagnostic use and pediatric growth hormone deficiency treatment. Sermorelin works by stimulating the pituitary gland to produce growth hormone naturally, offering a more physiological approach compared to direct GH replacement.
How Does Sermorelin Work?
Sermorelin binds to GHRH receptors on somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary, triggering the release of stored growth hormone and stimulating new GH synthesis. This results in pulsatile GH release that mimics natural patterns. The hypothalamic-pituitary feedback mechanisms remain intact, reducing the risk of excessive GH levels. Additionally, sermorelin may help preserve the pituitary's ability to produce GH long-term.
